SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND CHILD PROTECTION
The England and Wales Cricket Board is firmly and enthusiastically committed to ensuring that cricket provides a safe, friendly and enjoyable experience for all children which is mirrored by Otterbourne Cricket Club.
Safeguarding in Cricket is based upon the concept of providing an enjoyable cricket environment that is tailored to the needs and requirements of children.
The Safeguarding Policy is not just to protect children in cricket, it is to introduce good practice, raise awareness and provide piece of mind.
"Safe Hands" is the England & Wales Cricket Board's Child Protection policy, updated regularly and endorsed by Sport England and the NSPCC.
The policy provides Cricket with ‘best practice’ guidelines and the ECB is wholeheartedly supporting Child Welfare and Protection, in line with all other Sports Governing Bodies, and OCC, as an active committed Club is committed to ensuring that cricket provides a safe, friendly and fun environment for children and vulnerable young adults. The aim is also to protect the interests of adults working with young players.
OCC fully adopts the principles of the ‘Safe Hands’ manual and agree to abide by its guidance, confirmed in our club's constitution, specifically
"To ensure a duty of care to all members of the Club by adopting and implementing the ECB ‘Safe Hands – Welfare of Young People in Cricket’ Policy and any future versions of the Policy."
The OCC Club Welfare Officer is Andy Nicholls who is contactable on 07721 568 094 and has attended relevant specialist training courses 'Time to Listen' and Safeguarding and Protecting Children
